Week 10 – continued
So after we found important mistake and tried to recover the problem on weekend.
SATURDAY
First we discussed about what is TASTE?
Here is our research.
What is TASTE?
Taste is the ability to respond to dissolved molecules and ions called tastants.
Humans detect taste with taste receptor cells. These are clustered in taste buds.
Each taste bud has a pore that opens out to the surface of the tongue enabling molecules
and ions taken into the mouth to reach the receptor cells inside.
What kind of taste do we have?
- Sweetness
- Sourness
- Bitterness
- Saltiness
- Savoriness
Savoriness – The quality of being savory.
Savory is
- Appetizing to the taste or smell: a savory stew.
- Piquant, pungent, or salty to the taste; not sweet.
Properties of the taste system.

A single taste bud contains 50–100 taste cells representing all 5 taste sensations (so the classic textbook pictures showing separate taste areas on the tongue are wrong).

Each taste cell has receptors on its apical surface. These are transmembrane proteins which

admit the ions that give rise to the sensations of salty and sour;

bind to the molecules that give rise to the sensations of sweet, bitter, and umami.

A single taste cell seems to be restricted to expressing only a single type of receptor (except for bitter receptors).

Taste receptor cells are connected, through an ATP-releasing synapse, to a sensory neuron leading back to the brain.

However, a single sensory neuron can be connected to several taste cells in each of several different taste buds.

we discussed how to present our TASTE
We aim to let people FEEL the issue(global warming).
So the TASTE should be something eatable.
but its taste should not be nice because we want to express the global warming
with the taste. then it should be something disgusting and it would represent the distroy of our world.
people who try this taste can FEEL our idea. We also want people to remeber this experience.
Because if we have some shocking experience, it will last for long
and can not get it out from our head. We want poeple to have strange shocking experience
and remember of it. it will be reminder later and we want people to considor of it.
This is also out warning to people who are ingoring the global warming and
also what is going on in this world.

- candy
- chocolate box
from above ideas, we chose to make new original super chocolate to let people try and taste!!!!!!
What can we put into chocolate?
We should think about all tastes.
- Sweet – Sugar
- Salty- put salt or soy sause
- Bitter – bitter chocolate / cacao
- Sour – lemon/ lime
- Spicy- Chili
we bought all spices to put into a chocolate!
the list of what we prepare:
- Dark cooking chocolate
- Lime syrup
- Chili flake
- Vinegar
- Sugar,Rock sugar
- Iced peach tea
Cooking time…
We made 6 chocolates with each above tastes,
and also the all mixed one.
We tried all of them and decided which one is to be used.
What we chose for TASTE is this…
This is a winner!!!!!!!

We constructed our box.
We folded the size of the board and sticked them with the PVA glue.
We haven’t closed the front and back because we need to set all our senses inside.
so we will close it at the end.
We also decided to set the mask on the front of the box.
Therefore it should be placed under the small hole. Then people can SEE inside and SMELL something once.

SUNDAY
Today, we focused on making box.
Before doing the vision part, we chose which typography to use.
This is what we chose for our VISION
Ex. of 50 typography
We tried to find the right place for the ball, acetate paper and the torch.
We also checked whether the speaker works inside of the box.
Because we are going to use speaker inside and play the sound mix truck.
It worked well yay 
Next, we need to figure out of SMELL…
